My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at the new hot spot in town, the Don’t Tell Supper Club, which also features a Vegas-style showroom.
While the downstairs venue bustled with multiple bars and throngs of well-dressed party-goers, we opted for the quieter upstairs area. From our booth, we could observe the events unfolding below but still enjoy a romantic dinner.
Looking over the menu, we discovered Don’t Tell Supper Club’s surprising, not-so-secret ingredient: Celebrity Chef Tre Wilco. He served as a consultant on the project and created the dinner menu. That’s when we knew it was going to be an memorable evening.
While waiting for our watermelon salad, we had a chance to visit briefly with an owner, Derek Braun. After opening several nightlife concepts around the country, Braun said he saw downtown Dallas as an ’underserved’ market.
“For all of its amazing restaurants and nightclubs, Dallas has yet to realize the supper club concept as witnessed in other cities around the country,” said Braun. “With Don’t Tell Supper Club, we’re out to prove that Dallas can support such a concept, and that with the right mix of top-notch food and eclectic entertainment, patrons can enjoy a full night out, from dinner to after-dinner, in one unique space.”
In opening the supper club, Braun collaborated with experts like Avi Adri (Levu, Aura Lounge, and Rock In Taco). Also involved are Robert Ortiz and Lisa Bennett, primary owners of the Mega club LABEL in Charlotte, N.C.
Braun said they also brought in General Manager James Hamous, co-owner of Standard Pour and High Fives, to oversee the bar. Inventive twists on classic cocktails complement the innovative, artistic menu created by Chef Wilcox and his staff. Since my dedicated driver spouse only drinks Dr Pepper or sweet tea, I skipped the craft cocktails in favor of a glass of Prosecco. I was intrigued by the Contortionist drink which featured Tito’s vodka, fresh fruit puree, lemon, champagne, and Pop Rocks to provide “a party in our mouths.” Maybe next time!
The food more than lived up to our expectations starting with sharing a refreshingly different watermelon salad featuring heirloom tomatoes, watermelon, cornbread croutons, balsamic gel, and basil ($12). For our entree we shared steak frites. The perfectly grilled prime NY strip was accompanied by a great sauce and truffle parmesan fries ($60). For dessert, my sentimental husband ordered the wedding cake (white chocolate buttermilk cake frosted with Italian buttercream frosting for two, $12).
We didn’t stay to see the supper club’s promised transition into a nightclub promised “pulsing house music, dancing and revelry” plus “an array of circus acts, burlesque, aerialists and hypnotists.” We left satisfied and sated with the fine food and service we experienced. We were also entertained at our upstairs booth by several friendly entertainers, including arty dodger (a juggler/comedian) and a strolling magician.
Don’t Tell Supper Club is open Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Dinner seating starts at 6 p.m., and the restaurant turns into a nightclub at 11 p.m. The space will be also be available for private events, parties, and corporate functions.
